New Stewardship Services Program Supports Landowners

San Isabel believes an important premise of private land conservation is that private landowners are the best stewards. That’s why the land is productive, full of wildlife, beautiful and worth protecting. However, over time, we suffer droughts, invasions by different weeds, forest pests, and other challenges. San Isabel would like to support our landowners in facing these challenges.

San Isabel is beginning to develop a Stewardship Services program for conservation landowners to support their efforts to manage, restore and enhance the health and productivity of their land. As our program grows, San Isabel will offer professional expertise and leveraged funding to help landowners meet their land management goals.

To kick things off, in 2015, we have launched our Forest Health Assessment program, based on the expertise of our current Americorps / VISTA member Martin Aksentowitz, a professional forester. In this new initiative, our conservation landowners can benefit from Martin’s expertise in visiting their property to discuss forest health, wildlife habitat, fire risk, and management options to address these issues. If you are one of our conservation landowners and you are interested in taking advantage of this free opportunity, please contact Martin at San Isabel: 719.783.3018 (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). To learn more about Martin, click here.

Moving forward, San Isabel’s vision is to broaden our Stewardship Services program beyond forestry to help address watershed health through techniques such as wetland and stream bank restoration and erosion control, as well as wildlife habitat improvements and agriculture sustainability.

Stay tuned, there is much more to come!
