Members Are Invited!

If you are a member of San Isabel Land Protection Trust, we invite you to join us and our hosts, Curt & Peggy Sorenson, to tour their protected land and hear the Garden Park story of public-private collaboration for land restoration.

Learn how private landowners worked together to restore pinon-juniper woodland for wild fire mitigation, vegetation and soil health, erosion control and wildlife habitat enhancement in this ruggedly beautiful corridor north of CañonCity.
We will gather at 10 a.m. for a vehicle tour of the pinon-juniper treatment areas led by property owner and lead project organizer Dr. Curt Sorenson. We will take short walks from the vehicles to inspect and compare sites that have been treated by different methods providing a strong foundation for exploring what is possible in pinon-juniper forest restoration.

The tour will end with lunch and conversation from 12-1:00 p.m. Dr. Sorenson will share the story of his community’s efforts to define the project, leverage funding and support, and how they measured outcomes.

This visit is limited to 12 participants, lunch is provided. Please RSVP as soon as possible.

If you attend, please wear comfortable, layered attire and hiking shoes for rugged terrain. Sun and heat can be intense in this valley situated at 6000 to 6500 feet of elevation. Bring along plenty of water and sun protection. Directions and information on carpooling will be provided when you RSVP.

We look forward to sharing this community’s impressive efforts and restoration outcomes with you.
