Born and raised in Wyoming and inspired by places like Yellowstone National Park, Shane expressed an early passion for the natural world through drawing and study. This led to a degree in biology and a career in illustration and wildlife painting. Field trips across the country and her own backyard, now in the Colorado mountains, provide her an array of subjects and a glimpse into their lives.

Shane enjoys bringing us face-to-face with nature and portraying wildlife as individuals with their own stories. Her work has exhibited nationally and internationally, including at the California Academy of Sciences; the U.S. Department of the Interior, Washington, D.C.; the Swedish Museum of Natural History, Stockholm; Hunter Museum of American Art, Chattanooga, TN; and the St. George (Utah) Art Museum. Her invitational shows include Art and the Animal, Arts for the Parks, Birds in Art, Coors Western Art Show & Sale, Endangered Species: Flora & Fauna in Peril, National Wildlife, Southeastern Wildlife Exposition, and Pictured: The Nation's Most Spectacular National Parks.

She has been a Signature Member of the Society of Animal Artists, New York, for 36 years and has won its Award of Excellence. Her work is in numerous private and public collections, in four books on both art and wildlife, and it has helped raise substantial funds benefiting conservation, wildlife and humane organizations.
