Merr Shearn

Orange Wreath
Price: 0.00 USD

Merr Shearn and her three siblings were raised on a farm in Illinois, always creating what they invented. Those idyllic years inspired her to raise her children the same way, creating different ideas informally with materials right at hand – just part of life and for fun.

After graduating from Pomona College with a bachelor’s degree and from Colorado College with a master’s degree, Merr became a teacher with a strong emphasis on art. She recently retired as chair of the Art Department for Pikes Peak Community College.  Her concentration was and is drawing. Any surface interests her – paper, wood, metal.

Her current collection consists of drawings on wood. She uses wax-based Prismacolor pencils because the colors blend into each other wonderfully. The drawings also “mush” into wood rather than sitting on top. Run your hand over a drawing to understand this.

Merr is interested in ideas and beauty and sometimes humor. She creates chairs as flat shapes and then draws on them to create a sense of three dimension. Wreaths are designed not for the Christmas season but for any time. The metal pieces are powder-coated for inside or outside placement. Her drawings are scanned and then sent via computer to her welding pal who cuts steel and arranges powder coating.
