Andy Taylor grew up in Chester County, Pa., went to Colorado College and moved to Carbondale, where he has lived and painted for more than 40 years.

Most of Andy’s art world exists within a day’s drive – the 250 miles to the north, south and west, across the Colorado Plateau, with its spectacular canyons, high plains, distant mesas, skinny rivers, and infrequent trees and sundry shrubbery.

“I love it — the colors, the shapes, the weather, and the occasional place where water changes everything,” he says.

Frequently and close to home, Andy and his dogs go on “sniff and sketch” excursions to find what changes might have happened in their favorite places.

“I am amazed that there is always something new to discover, places to explore, changes in light, and of course, new smells,” he says. For me, painting has been about finding those differences in common places that make them special and interpreting them in a way that resonates with others.”

Andy has been represented by the Ann Korologos Gallery and its predecessor, the Basalt Gallery, in Basalt for 24 years, and at A Gallery in Salt Lake City for about 10 years. He has participated in the U.S. State Department's "Art in Embassies" program, with loans to the embassies in Kingston, Jamaica; Nouakchott, Mauritania; and Lisbon, Portugal.
